Trip chaining and places to dwell: Map and collage your trip chain with Dr Julia King and Olivia Theocharides-Feldman at Social Place, while reflecting on the right to loiter and how everyday urban spaces might better support rest, care work and social connection. Sponsored by Vestre.
This hands-on workshop will explore ‘trip chaining’ – or how our daily journeys like work, school drop-offs, and errands are often combined into long winding routes with differing complexities. We’ll also explore how this is something that’s often gendered – women’s trip chains tend to be more laborious as they are statistically more likely to engage in trip chaining due to caregiving and household responsibilities. Drawing on our research with young women and their experiences of public space, we’ll map and collage our own trip chains together while reflecting on the right to loiter and how everyday urban spaces and architectures might better support rest, care work, social connection, and how we move about our local areas.
