The third phase of the ARU Peterborough University Quarter addresses the city’s historical lack of higher education and its socio-economic disparities by transforming poor-quality car parks into a green, accessible campus. Central to the £32 million project is a “living lab”. It delivered £74.1 million in local social value, and created 45 new jobs, 16 work experience placements and 240 apprentice weeks during construction, significantly boosting the community and local economy.
8 Bishopsgate is a 50-storey tower which opened in June 2023, offering sustainable office space with over 10 per cent dedicated to amenities promoting collaboration and wellbeing. It features The Lookout, a free public viewing gallery on level 50. The project has supported 131 young people through educational outreach. With solar panels, grey water harvesting, and an advanced HVAC system improving air quality and reducing cooling loads by 5 per cent.

The Soho redevelopment spans approximately 0.4 hectares, transforming the old Foyles bookshop site and listed buildings on Greek Street. It introduces James Court, a new pedestrian link between Manette Street and Greek Street. The project features the “hanging gardens of Soho,” offering 1,300 sq m of garden terraces. It includes eight new affordable social rented apartments and around 0.1 hectares of new public realm around James Court.

Eden, a £36 million, 11,000 sq m, 12-storey workspace in New Bailey, Salford, is designed to enhance health, wellbeing and productivity. As the most sustainable office building in Greater Manchester, it features Europe’s largest living wall with 350,000 plants. The building incorporates clear future-proofing design elements, setting a new standard for eco-friendly and innovative workspaces.

Part of the Olympic Park legacy, UCL East’s new Marshgate campus in Newham spans 35,000m², focusing on community regeneration and innovative learning. Embracing a long-life, loose-fit design, it serves as a “living laboratory” with public routes, openable glazing, and event-ready infrastructure. Of the 1,500 on-site workers, 30 per cent are local residents, with over 125 apprentices annually. The project aims to encourage cross-disciplinary learning while making the space welcoming.

Pocket Living’s scheme in Walthamstow offers 90 affordable one-bedroom homes for first-time buyers, with 50 per cent sold to local residents or workers. It is located opposite Lloyd Park and the William Morris Gallery and the design reflects local heritage. Part of the Mayor of London’s affordable housing programme, homes are sold at a 20 per cent discount. An on-site energy centre provides low-carbon heating, while design features maximise light and reduce energy use.
