Climate Resilience

Nature based solution for stormwater management, Pontypool for Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water with Morgan Sindall and Arup

A pioneering nature-based solution improving river health in the Afon Lwyd and River Usk. Instead of a £56 million grey infrastructure upgrade, an Integrated Constructed Wetland was implemented for £13m- a UK first for in catchment storm overflow treatment. This pioneering approach improves water quality, boosts biodiversity, and fosters environmental awareness through education and engagement.

Minerva Works Circular Economy Hub, Greater London for Old Oak Park Royal Development Corporation with Republic of Park Royal, Recollective, Absolute Beginners, Rescued Clay and Grace McCarthy

Minerva Works is a circular economy hub in Park Royal, initiated by OPDC in partnership with local creatives. The site will eventually host an energy centre using waste heat from local data centres, and is currently repurposed as a creative workspace run by The Republic of Park Royal until 2026. Enterprises such as Re-collective, Absolute Beginners, and Rescued Clay are transforming local waste from Park Royal — from HS2’s excavated clay and film sets to tyres and high-vis gear.

Garden for the Future, East Sussex for The National Trust with Joe Perkins, The Landscaping Consultants, Oli Carter Adventurous Joinery and Kelways Plants

A climate-resilient, accessible addition to the Grade I listed Sheffield Park and Garden, designed by RHS Chelsea award-winner Joe Perkins. Prioritising biodiversity, sustainability, and wellbeing, it features drought-tolerant planting in manufactured soils, permeable paths, reclaimed marine timber boardwalks, and locally sourced stone. Sensitive construction avoids root zones and protects veteran trees. The garden embodies innovation and legacy.

Beckenham Place Park East, London Borough of Lewisham for London Borough of Lewisham with BDP, Metis, ADAS, Ian Farmer Associates and T Loughman & Co Ltd

Beckenham Place Park East is a transformative regeneration project that turned 17 hectares of flood-prone parkland into a resilient, multifunctional landscape. The design integrates flood attenuation, biodiversity enhancement, and circular construction—over 99% of demolition materials and redundant footpath subbase were reused on-site, while excavated soil formed a new bike trail, reducing embodied carbon. River corridor improvements bring light, views, and access to water, enriching ecology.

The Millport Coastal Flood Protection Scheme is a landmark investment securing the future of the Isle of Cumbrae. Designed to defend homes, businesses, and vital infrastructure from rising seas and stronger storms, the scheme reflects years of meaningful community collaboration. Residents shaped materials, access, aesthetics, and construction choices, ensuring protection that fits Millport’s character. This future-proof design strengthens safety and supports the local economy.
